How to get bigger breasts or how to increase my breast size?

It is understandable that women and especially teenagers in the USA (and elsewhere in similarly affected cultures) are very self-conscious about their breasts and many worry about their breast size. But the fact is, there is not much you can do to change your breast size - for smaller or bigger. Consider the following things that will NOT make your breasts bigger:

  • There is NO food that will make your breasts bigger.
  • Exercising in general will not help much. Breasts do not have muscles. If you tone your chest muscles that are underneath the breasts, the effect will be slight (see below for more).
  • Sleeping position has no effect on breast size.
  • Nor will wearing bras or not wearing bras.
  • Rubbing or squeezing won't affect breast size.
  • Nor do they get bigger when a woman starts having sex.
So what will affect breast size?

  • Mainly your genes. Look to your mom, sisters, aunts - their breast size will usually give you an indication of your final breasts size.
  • Breast growth during puberty is driven by two hormones, estrogen and progesterone. Hormonal imbalances could therefore affect breast growth.
  • Breasts contain fat, so slim and thin people often (not always) have smaller breasts than overweight/obese people.
  • If you gain weight overall, some of that fat goes to your breasts. Exception: it is possible in certain situations to only gain fat in your waist area or abdomen (pot belly). But if you're overweight in general, with fat all over, then losing weight WILL cause your breasts to be somewhat smaller since you will lose fat from all over your body. Anorexic girls typically have very very small breasts.
  • An actual injury (like cutting) to the breast bud may prevent the breast from developing right.
  • Breasts WILL grow during pregnancy and stay bigger during breastfeeding. Once you start the wean, even partially, breasts will diminish in size because there is less demand for milk. After total weaning, breasts will usually go back to pre-pregnancy size (though sometimes they end up smaller than pre-pregnancy).
  • Breast augmentation surgery is the only sure way, but undermines your ability to FULLY breastfeed, and can often have SERIOUS health effects.
  • Birth control pills containing estrogen sometimes make one's breasts larger as a side effect. This does not happen to everyone taking the pill though.
  • The various herbal pills for breast enhancement, it's hard to say... They seem to be effective for some women, and often not.
  • What about taking extra estrogen? Theoretially this might work. BUT if you are a woman, taking extra estrogen on top of what your own body already produces will definitely increase your breast cancer risk, may cause nasty PMS, and other unwanted side-effects as well.
  • Toning/exercising the pectoral muscles: If you really get the muscle under the breast to grow bigger, that DOES have a slight effect on the overall appearance of your chest, and can make the breast appear a tiny bit bigger. Read the words of one female softball pitcher:
"I have been a serious softball pitcher for the past 10 years of my life and for this reason my right breast is much harder and feels more muscular than my left and is also more perky (I pitch with my right arm in a windmill motion). The difference is not incredible, but it is certainly noticeable. Also, a lot of my friends are softball players and other pitchers have the same issue."

How much exercise is needed for this is an open question. So it is possible to "push" your breasts out a little by building up your pectoral muscles (inclined/declined/flat pushups). Technicallly it is an illusion since the breasts don't get any bigger.
  • The bra industry has created numerous breast enhancer things such as silicone enhancers, gel-filled bras, padded bras etc. to create the illusion of larger bust.
  • BRAVA - a vacuum bra system that is supposed to induce breast tissue growth by applying a steady vacuum pressure, but apparently does very little. The website BRAV-ARGH! (now defunct) had many failure stories by women who tried it.

How to Get Bigger Breasts Without Surgery

There's no shame in admitting that you want bigger breasts. Although it can be tricky to get bigger breasts without surgery, help is on the way. If you want to have bigger breasts, you can do some breast exercises, try some medical devices, or even work to make your breasts look bigger. If you want to know how to get bigger breasts without surgery, just follow along.

Part 1 of 3: Doing Exercises

Do push-ups. Push-ups are not only great exercise for your biceps, but they can also strengthen the pectoral muscles that are located below the breasts. Doing too many push-ups at once can strain your arms, so start by doing just 2 or 3 sets of 10 push-ups in one day, if you're already physically strong. If push-ups are new to you, start with 2 sets of 5 and work your way up. As you become a push-up pro, you can "push" yourself to do even more each day. Here's how to do a push-up:
  • Start with your stomach on the floor and your hands directly below your shoulders.
  • Slowly push your body upwards into the plank position by pushing against the ground until your arms straighten as you rise onto your toes.
  • Lower down to the ground without letting your stomach touch the floor and lift yourself up again.
  • If this proves too challenging, start off by doing push-ups while keeping your knees and lower legs on the floor. This is still a great workout for your pecs.
Part 2 of 3: Adjusting Your Diet

Gain some weight. That's right. If you really want to naturally get bigger breasts, then all you have to do is gain a few pounds. Your breasts will fill out along with your stomach, thighs, and other parts of your body that tend to gain weight more easily than the rest. You may not want to gain weight in order to get bigger breasts, but it's the most foolproof way to do it. To gain weight, just increase your caloric intake, focus on fattier foods like cheeses and sugary foods like cookies. Or just eat more of the food you love so you don't feel like you're actively trying to be unhealthy.
  • This is a good move if you're on the thin side and could stand to gain a few pounds anyway. Obviously, though, this may not be the world's most appealing solution.
Part 3 of 3: Making Your Breasts Look Bigger

Wear a bra that fits you correctly. Studies show that as many as 8 out of every 10 women are wearing the wrong bra size. Wearing a bra that is too small may actually make your breasts look smaller, not bigger, and wearing a bra that is too big can make your breasts hang more loosely and therefore can also make them look smaller than they really are. The trick to making your breasts look bigger? Wearing a bra that fits you perfectly. Here's how to find one and wear it correctly:
  • Focus on the width of your band, not your cup size. Cup size is important, but only if you know whether you're a 32 or a 36. That makes all the difference.
  • Don't wear your bra on the tightest hooks unless that's how it fits best. Otherwise, hook your bra in the place where it feels the most comfortable.
  • Don't ever let your band ride up your back.
  • Make sure your bra fits the type of outfit you're wearing. Don't wear the same style bra with different tops, or some may make your breasts look smaller than they really are.
Wear a padded or push-up bra. This is another quick and easy fix -- no stuffing necessary. A padded bra can make your breasts look a bit bigger, and a push-up bra can take that to the next level. If you're in the market for a padded or a push-up bra, you should get fitted before you try one on, just as you should do with a real bra. Just make sure you don't get a bra that is so obviously padded that you've increased the size of your breasts by 3 -- that will be a little obvious.
  • In fact, you should avoid stuffing your bra with Kleenex or anything else that cannot take on the actual shape of your breasts. It will look silly if nothing else, and could lead to some embarrassment.

Contour your breasts with makeup. Sound extreme? It's totally not. Women contour their breasts with makeup all the time, especially on movie sets. This creates the illusion of a lighter size and only requires a few brush strokes and for you to take care to not get makeup on the top of your shirt. You can even buy a makeup kit for this purpose if you're really committed; first, though, it's best to start off just using the makeup you have to see if you like the effect. If you want to give it a try, follow these steps:
  • Get dressed, bra and all. Put on the outfit you're actually going to wear.
  • Tuck tissue or toilet paper into the front of your shirt to protect it from makeup.
  • Apply darker bronzer or powder in the area down in your cleavage area, moving down in between your breasts.
  • Blend this color up and outward, making a v-shape along the natural curve of your breasts.
  • Brush a lighter shade of eye shadow or face powder, such as gold or peach, over the top half of your breasts.
  • Use a sponge to blend the shade to create a natural and more full look for your breasts.

Get the yummy mummy look!

New mothers sometimes find the many changes in their body and mind overwhelming. Emotional and psychological changes can be dealt with in time, but here are a few physical changes that you can get done to bring back your youthful body.

Motherhood is a blessing, and brings with it an amalgamation of not just immense joy, beautiful surprises and countless sleepless nights, but also a body that changes so much in a matter of just a few months, that for some it is almost like an identity crisis and a shock.

Dr Mohan Thomas, cosmetic surgeon, says, "Pregnancy can thus take a toll on a woman's body, affecting her breasts, tummies, legs and more. After pregnancy, especially multiple pregnancies or unusually large births or twins, women find it difficult to return to their pre-pregnancy shape." It is common knowledge that pregnancy can cause the stomach skin to stretch beyond natural repair, loosen the vagina and the breast shape and elasticity can also get damaged.

One can choose a healthy regimen of diet and exercise along with some surgical procedures that can improve the changes that women see with their bodies after pregnancy. Dr Thomas says, "This correction surgeries involve a tummy tuck, breast augmentation and/or a breast lift. A combination of all these procedures can help distraught mothers achieve the desired shape and also make them feel fit."
Here are the corrective measures...

Breast surgeries

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is a type of plastic surgery performed to improve the appearance of a woman's bustline. It involves the insertion of breast implants into the breast mounds to add volume and enhance shape.

Breast lift

This is for droopy breasts (may at times require a breast implant for loss of volume)

Breast reduction

This is to reduce large breasts enlarged further post pregnancy and is accompanied by a lift.

Body contouring

Liposuction

Liposuction is surgery to improve the contour of your body by removing pockets of excess fat from specific areas of the body.

Abdominoplasty

This procedure has many variants like:

-Mini tummy tuck where in the laxicity is only below the belly button and hence a predetermined portion of skin and fat is removed keeping the scar in the panty line.
-With relocation of belly button and tightening of the abdominal wall — this procedure is done when there is laxity above and below the belly button, looseness of the abdominal wall with protrusion of the abdomen.
-Pelvic slide, which often occurs following pregnancies, is also addressed at the time of the abdominoplasty by a pelvic lift.

Vaginoplasty

This procedure helps address the laxity of the vaginal canal by tightening it after the delivery. Dr Satish Arolkar, a senior plastic surgeon, cautions, "These procedures of vaginoplasty should not be undertaken before one year of delivery as immediately after delivery the tender areas tend to bleed excessively. Undue eagerness may result in a tighter impenetrable opening months later."

When should a new mother go for breast enhancement?

Surgeons suggest waiting till breast feeding is complete. Drugs administered to the mother find their way into the breast milk and harm the infant. Dr Arolkar states, "The option of breast implants is getting less popular for various reasons. The latest is again autologous fat transfer to the sagging breasts which may require two sittings six months apart. An increase of two cup sizes can be expected with this technique. It is undertaken under general anesthesia and is not a day care procedure as is made out to be. This transferred fat behaves like 'Stem Cells' and also helps contour unwanted bulges a welcome 'side-effect'."

Sex is not permitted for six weeks post surgery in both vaginoplasty and breast enhancement.

Case study

Prerana Singh*, 35, a senior manager in an event management company had a precious pregnancy after 10 years of marriage thanks to many cycles of IVF treatment. These treatments caused her to put on a lot of weight and the birth of her child took her mind away from her mis-shapen body issues for very long. When the child was about a year old, and she stopped breast feeding, she noticed her deflated breasts, fat deposits and loose skin in her abdomen and sides. Moreover, because of the normal delivery and a large child her genital area had become roomy. She felt unattractive. She wanted to go back to her work but also, wanted to look youthful and attractive and so underwent a complete makeover hospital-based procedures that included shaping her midriff by a combination of liposuction and tummy tuck, breast rejuvenation by a combination of an implant and a lift, and a vaginal tightening procedure.

She recovered quickly and she went home in three days and joined work in two weeks, confident, attractive and more youthful than ever before.

Keep in mind:

This is a very safe procedure and primarily involving the outer shell of the body leaving all important organs totally shielded and safe. These procedures should be done only after the child has stopped breast feeding and preferably after the family is complete.
